Creek Walk: Flowing Waters – From Farms to River Restoration

SUPPORT
Join WMG and neighbors/community members to implement green infrastructure to diminish flooding issues, establish green spaces, enhance beauty and cool neighborhood streets.

By the late 1800s, Tucson’s Flowing Wells Neighborhood was a productive farmland irrigated by waters from the Santa Cruz River conveyed by a canal dug by Warren Allison and his team. Later this was call the Allison Ditch. By 1940, urbanization started to be a steady force of changing the landscape to what is now called the Flowing Wells community of Tucson. Currently Watershed Management Group (WMG), Pima County Regional Flood Control District and Community Development Department, Flowing Wells Neighborhood Association, and neighbors/community members are working to implement green infrastructure to diminish flooding issues, establish green spaces, enhance beauty and cool neighborhood streets.

Join WMG’s Cultural Ecologist Dr. Joaquin Murrieta and Designer Nichole Casebeer, and authors Kevin Daily (also Flowing Wells Neighborhood Association Board President) and Marie Daily, to explore past, present and future of this important sector of Tucson and the current efforts of green infrastructure and river restoration. We will gather at the rain garden site on N Shannon Rd, do light maintenance work at the rain gardens for one hour, walk to the Flowing Wells District Park and the Rillito River and back to Shannon Rain Gardens.

Directions will be emailed to you upon your registration.

This is an exclusive event for River Run Network members. If you are not yet a member, when you sign up for this creek walk, we will add you to the Network! Learn more about how you can take action at home and in your watershed to recharge groundwater and restore our heritage of flowing creeks and rivers.
