Friday thru Monday include Conformation, Junior Showmanship, 4-6 Month Puppy Competition, and Pee Wee Competition which is on Friday. Agility, Obedience, and Rally will be from Coyote Friday through Sunday. Our exhibitors include some of the top professional dog handlers and dogs in the country (including some of the top winner’s from the Westminster Dog Show), many owner-handlers, and junior handlers. Last year we had 4,285 dogs, representing 143 different AKC breeds.
From Friday through Sunday, we will have National Owner-Handled Series entries. The AKC National Owner-Handled Series is a non-titling competition for dogs that are exhibited by their owners that are not professional handlers. The dogs must be handled throughout the breed level competition for the regular show by an eligible owner. Professional handlers, household members, and current assistants, to professional handlers, may not exhibit the dog in any competition during the entire show. This competition gives the non-professional a chance to go into their own Group Ring and compete for Best In Show against other non-professional owner-handlers only.
On Friday at Noon in Old Pueblo Hall, we will have a 4-6 Month Puppy Competition. Anyone with an AKC registered puppy, born between 5/13/2017 and 7/13/2017, can let them experience a taste of the real thing!!! All judges are AKC licensed. Puppies will compete in breed judging, group judging, and finally Best Puppy in Competition. Entries must be received by Wednesday, November 8th, and are only $10 per entry. No mailed entries will be accepted after November 8th. The Entry Form is in our Premium List that is on our website (http://www.coyoteclassic.org).
Our Pee Wee Competition will be on Saturday at Noon in Old Pueblo Hall. 5-9 year olds are welcome to join in this event. It will include ribbons and a goody bag, with lunch included after the competition. Entries must be received by Wednesday, November 8th, and are only $10 per child. You are the future of our sport! All current and future Junior Showmanship participants and new or novice adults are invited to attend our FREE Clinic. This is your opportunity to receive individual instruction (with your dog) from AKC registered professional handlers, to better enable you to present your dog in the show ring. DON’T MISS OUT!!! To register at the shows, sign up at the catalog/information table.
We will have vendors selling dog-related items that cannot be found at local pet stores. In addition, our sponsor, Purina, will have a booth in Old Pueblo Hall for your dog’s nutritional needs. There will also be Food Vendors there from Friday through Monday, for your nutritional needs!
We are very excited to have our AKC Pet Disaster Relief Trailer, which is based in Tucson at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Due to space limitations, it will not be on display at the show site. The Coyote Classic Dog Shows, the Greater Sierra Vista Kennel Club, the Tucson Kennel Club, and one of our Tucson Kennel Club members that spearheaded the acquisition and funding of the trailer, all together, donated 50% of the funding for this trailer to reside in Tucson. We will have a Benefit Raffle from Friday thru Sunday, to raise money to assist in the maintenance of the trailer. Raffle drawings will be right before Best In Show on Sunday. Please stop by the raffle table in Old Pueblo Hall, to show your support for a trailer that will be assisting many animals in great need, at times of disasters in this state. It really is for a good cause!
The two clubs holding the shows, are Tucson Kennel Club and The Greater Sierra Vista Kennel Club. Both are non-profit organizations and have contributed to the following organizations, among others: AKC Canine Health Foundation, AKC Pet Disaster Relief, Coopers Chance Animal Rescue, Gabriel’s Angels, Handi-Dogs, Pima County 4-H Leaders Dog Projects, Seniors Pets/Meals on Wheels, Southern Arizona Humane Society, Top Dog, The Valley Fever Center for Excellence & the University of Arizona’s Valley Fever Prevention Research Support Fund, Tucson Cares, Nancy J. With so many dogs and so many exciting events, this will be a very busy and exciting show week. Please come join us! We are sure to have something of interest for everyone! This event is free parking and free admission for all spectators. Only dogs that are participating in the various events, are permitted on the show grounds (Please Note – Retractable Leads are dangerous to use in crowded or confined areas, such as those that occur around the show rings. Because of this, retractable leads are not permitted on the show grounds during show hours.). When you get to Old Pueblo Hall, feel welcome to stop by the Information table to pick up a Show Schedule, which will show you all the breeds with their rings numbers and show times. We also have some interesting things explaining AKC shows, like The Road To Best In Show, and other great information. There should be someone at the table all day, and they will be glad to answer any questions that you may have. It’s a lot more fun to watch, if you understand more about what is happening! Our website has some great information for Spectators about attending dog shows at http://www.coyoteclassic.org/home/spectators.
