Get “Jet Set” with the multi-Tony Nominated hit, Catch Me if You Can: The Musical, a sensational new musical from the writers of Hairspray and Ragtime. Based on the blockbuster Steven Spielberg film of the same name, Catch Me if You Can runs three weekends, August 25-September 10 at Arts Express Theatre. Shows are Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and matinees Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m.
With a flashy Motown and Sinatra-infused score, Catch Me if You Can follows Frank Abagnale, Jr. (Matt Milne), a charming young con artist who goes from small-town teenager to millionaire faster than you can blink. With a newly broken home, Frank Jr. runs away, hoping his absence will reunite his parents, Frank Sr. (Jesse Pickering) and Paula (Diane Bertrand-Goldsmith). With only a couple of dollars to his name, Frank Jr. pulls off his first con with a train ticket to New York City, where his adventure begins.
With words of “wisdom” from his father swimming in his head, Frank Jr. soon finds he has a talent not only for check forgery, but also to pose as anyone he can dream, even a globetrotting Pan Am pilot. Frank Jr. is flying high, but before long, the clever FBI agent Hanratty (Rafael Acuña) picks up the trail of Frank Jr. and the chase is on.
Fearing he’s been discovered, Frank Jr. quickly drops his pilot disguise and heads to Atlanta for a new start and pretends to be a doctor in a pediatric ward. Frank Jr. falls in love with the girl of his dreams, an ER Nurse named Brenda (Taylor Thomas) and decides to stop running and settle down. But the dogged Hanratty isn’t about to give up, tracking Frank’s trail at every turn. Will Frank ever find his happy ending?
With a fast-paced book filled with humor, wit, and tenderness by Tony Award-winner Terrence McNally, spectacular dance numbers, and a swinging, savvy score by Tony Award-winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman, Catch Me if You Can at Arts Express Theatre is an absolute must-see!
