Big Bad Mama

“Men, Money and Moonshine: When It Comes To Vice, Mama Knows Best!” It’s Bonnie and Clyde with more bullets, more blood and more bursting bras when legendary ‘70s stars Angie Dickinson and William Shatner team up to play Depression-era outlaws tearing up the country in this rip-roaring backwoods gangster flick from producer Roger Corman!
Yes, they say it’s a man’s word, but just try telling that to Big Bad Mama! Before she heated up America’s TV sets as Sgt. Pepper Anderson on Police Woman, the amazing Angie Dickinson let it all hang out playing sexy widow Wilma McClathchie, a 1930s housewife-turned-criminal who decides to get her piece of the pie with a machine gun in each hand. After busting up her teen daughter’s wedding, tough cookie Wilma decides to lift herself out of poverty by taking her two girls on an outlaw road trip to Waco, Texas, where they get into all sorts of ‘70s exploitation flick hijinks, including bootlegging, armed robbery and kidnapping … not to mention a breezy mother/daughter striptease! Along the way, they pick up a couple of studs played by Tom Skerritt (Alien) and William Shatner, and before you know it, Big Bad Mama is on her way to becoming a national folk hero! Featuring gratuitous sex, violence, redneck humor and nudity, as well as some major Shatner action (yes, this is the film which boldly goes where no other film has gone before, namely to Shatner’s only onscreen nude sex scene … beam it up, Scotty!), this is a seriously fun drive-in classic that knows how to deliver the goods. (Dir. by Steve Carver, 1974, USA, 84 mins., Rated R)
