Cholla buds have been harvested for thousands of years by indigenous desert people who recognized the seasonal and nutritional value of this amazing food. One of the first green foods available in Spring, cholla buds emerge in March-April and may be easily harvested using tongs and brushes for removing spines and glochids.
In this workshop various kinds of cholla will be encountered and identified, and participants will learn to harvest and prepare, and explore recipes featuring cholla buds.
Presented by Bean Tree Farms.
Eat Mesquite and More recipes will be featured.
