Adrianna Marie is blazing her own unique style in the blues world with her seven piece-band the Groovecutters. “Sophisticated, sultry, playful and she knows how to put the Jazz in Blues and the Blues in Jazz,” writes Blues Music Magazine. Her 2014 album titled Double Blues Crossing was nominated for “Best New Artist Debut” by both the Blues Foundation and Blues Blast Magazine. It featured songs by a diverse group of influences such as Big Maybelle, Billy Holiday, Louis Jordan, Dinah Washington and Johnny Otis. For her sophomore release last year titled Kingdom of Swing, her band is billed as Her Roomful of All-Stars. She considered this to be her dream team which not only included her long-time collaborator, guitarist LA Jones, but also drummer Brian Fahey from the Paladins and Southern California blues guitar hero Junior Watson. There were also several members from the infamous group Roomful of Blues including the session Producer Duke Robillard, keyboardist Al Copley, and the Roomful Horns. And as they said on the back cover, “Adrianna Marie and her Roomful of All-stars transport you to a posh club complete with smoky blues, driving riffs and gleaming jazz.” Or if it’s a House Rockin’ party then the venue is a historic ballroom and the band is transporting everyone to the dance floor with swing and blues and irresistible vocals.
Also featured on the bill will be veteran guitarist LA Jones, who draws from his past experience playing and recording with many of the Blues greats such as pianist Pinetop Perkins, guitarists Otis Rush, Jimmy Rogers, Luther Johnson and saxophonist Joe Houston. He has pioneered a style that is all his own, blending the ever-popular jump swing of the great Texas and West Coast traditions. At the same time, he has not forgotten to remain deeply and firmly rooted in the 1950’s Chicago Blues traditions. Having recorded eight CDs in the past twenty-five years, he has also performed relentlessly by playing over 200 dates a year with both Adrianna Marie and his own band the Blues Messengers.
Opening the show will be Arizona Blues Hall of Fame All-Stars, Anna Warr and Hurricane Carla, backed by the Bad News Blues Band. Warr is one of the premier blues vocalists in Tucson and she will be sharing the stage with saxophonist Hurricane Carla in this female-led blues tour de force. They will kick off the show at 7:30 pm with door at 6:30. Tickets are available at all Bookman’s locations.
