The festival also includes a variety of memorable activities to experience: mouth-watering culinary options on the Church Avenue Food Court; Festival Beer Garden; Stefan George Memorial Songwriting Competition; Young Artist Showcase; Family Show; an instrument petting zoo; kids activities; free, interactive music workshops and the festival store.

Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association (TKMA) is proud to present the 34th Annual Tucson Folk Festival on April 6 – 7, 2019 in historic Downtown Tucson, one of the oldest FREE folk music festivals in the country! The National Headliner for 2019, performing Saturday April 6 at 9 p.m. on Jácome Plaza, is Red Molly. Combining the forces of three female songwriters with unique character and style, Red Molly creates a show that is larger than the sum of its parts. Known for their 3-part harmony, their songs and arrangements lay bare a love of vocal blend. The band weaves together threads of American music—from country & blues to folk & bluegrass. Their innovative instrumentation is suited for roots-rock and heartful ballads alike, and the alchemy of their personalities onstage draws even back row listeners into a sense of intimacy. Red Molly is simply a joy to experience. The Guardian described their music as “sunnyside Americana” with “immaculate vocal harmonies”, and Time Out NY described their show as featuring “a blend of serious harmonizing chops and slick pop savvy.” Red Molly will be performing Saturday, April 6 at 9:00 p.m. on the Jácome Plaza.

The Heather Hardy Band will be the Local Headliner for the 34th Annual Tucson Folk Festival taking the Jácome Plaza Stage on Sunday, April 7 at 8 p.m. Heather Hardy has been playing the violin for 46 years. During her long career, she has studied at the Manhattan School of Music under Raphael Bronstein as well as with well-known Jazz violinist and author, Julie Lyonn Lieberman. Heather was inducted into the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame in 2001 and Tucson Musicians Museum in 2016. This recognition was certainly influenced by her 20-year collaboration with Sam Taylor, Jr., a legendary blues artist who was inducted into AZ Blues Hall of Fame in 2000 as well as the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2006. Currently based in Tucson, she has toured with Allen Ginsberg, throughout Europe and Canada with The False Prophets punk band and was the house session violinist for Velvet Swan Studios in NYC for over 10 years. To date, Heather has played on the recordings of over 200 artists in blues, folk, jazz, rock and bluegrass. Her most recent CD release is “Heather Lil’ Mama Hardy LIVE in Tucson” and this is a LIVE show you won’t want to miss!

Mr. Nature’s Music Garden will perform as the Family Show Headliner for two shows, Saturday, April 6, from 3 – 4 p.m. and Sunday April 7 from 2 – 3 p.m. on the Wildflower Stage just west of the downtown public library. Anthony Marc Aldinger established Mr. Nature’s Music Garden in early 2013 to build and strengthen positive foundations for social interaction focusing on kindness, compassion and mindfulness engagement through song, dance, interactive music, storytelling and instrument fun! Based in Tucson, the Mr. Nature Garden Crew is made up of amazing creative multi instrumentalists Tom “Po” Privett, Eli “Brother Bear” Beren, Coppelia “Coco” Tarantal and Syndenn Sweet! Mr. Nature’s Music Garden was named “Best Children’s Entertainer” by the Tucson Weekly in 2016, 2017, and runner up in 2018, as well as being “Belled” by Ben’s Bells for his kindness work in the community.

A year of changes for the Folk Festival, 2019 finds the festival moving a month earlier than in previous years with a fresh, updated footprint because of construction in El Presidio Plaza. But, the new changes and early date aren’t slowing down the festival. “The new locations will provide great acoustic environments to showcase our performers. We’ve moved two stages, the beer garden, food court and vendor area to Jácome Plaza and surrounding area, along with relocating the workshops inside the downtown Joel D. Valdez Main Library” said TKMA President, Diane Perry. “We are also adding stages on Church Avenue and the Dusty Monk Pub at La Cocina. Our hope is that more winter visitors will still be in town for the new April dates and we’ll have more temperate weather for the festival.”
