The 33rd Annual Blues Heritage Festival is coming!
Sunday October 15th, 2017
11 am to 6:30 pm at Rillito Park
We are back at the track, with more shade tents and more talent by popular demand! We have a true blues super-group headlining the show, I can’t believe we can pack this many stars onto one stage. Big Llou Johnson from BB King’s Bluesville Sirius radio station has pulled together his Bluesville Revue including Zac Harmon, Johnny Rawls, Nellie “Tiger” Travis, Bob Corritore, Jimmy “Primetime” Smith, Brian Fahey, Mark Holiday, and our own blues veteran Steve Grams.
We have also invited JW Jones, from Ottawa, Canada to join us with his award-winning guitar riffs and insightful original lyrics. He has recently released a new CD “High Temperature” that is packed with danceable hard-driving blues rhythms that will make you jump and shout!
Our own fair city will be featured with blues artists including Zo Carroll and the Soul Breakers, performing original tunes from their CD “What I Need” as well as blues and soul favorites. Zo represented Tucson at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis a few years back with Joe Scibilia in the King Bees.
Black Cat Bones will bring their hard rockin’ blues sound to the stage featuring the rich vocals of Charles Pitts backed by a powerhouse guitarists and a driving rhythm section. I have the inside word that they are working on some new material for the Festival that will knock your socks off!
One of the most important goals that we have in SABHF is to encourage younger artists to explore the depth and beauty of the blues. Therefore we start each Festival with a youth blues group, and this year we will feature the Amphi High School Funky Panthers for your listening pleasure. These kids blew me away last year with some hot horns and great young vocalists, just amazing!
