“By any yardstick Chicago guitarist John Primer has paid his dues.” -Bill Dahl
The Southern Arizona Blues Heritage Foundation is excited to present Delta Groove recording artists John Primer & Bob Corritore in a KXCI Presents show. The event is a CD release party for their brand new recording Ain’t Nothing You Can Do. The actual release date for the disc is the day of the show, April 21st.
John Primer has undisputedly helped build the sound and style of Chicago blues as we know it today. The echoes of tradition bellowing from the birthplaces he played such as: Maxwell Street, Theresa’s, Checkerboard and Rosa’s Lounges, pulse from every chord in his fingers today. John Primer is a Chicago Blues Living Legend. After several years with Willie Dixon’s Chicago Blues All-Stars he joined Muddy Waters’ band and stayed with him till Muddy’s passing in 1983. He then played with Magic Slim & The Teardrops for fourteen years. Since going out on his own he’s released or been recorded on over a dozen albums and toured extensively all over the world. A master storyteller and songwriter, his catalog of songs is endless. Some of the awards attached to him include: 2 Grammy nominations and 2 Living Legend honors as well as a Blues Music Award for Best Traditional Blues Artist from the National Blues Foundation and many more.
Bob Corritore is one of the most active and highly regarded blues harmonica players on the scene today. His style passionately carries forward the old school of playing that he learned as a young man directly from many of the original pioneers of Chicago blues. His playing is featured on over 50 releases to date on a number of different labels. Both Bob and John have been Grammy nominated (Twice for John) and have been nominated for, and have won, several Blues Music Awards. In fact, both are nominated for the upcoming Blues Music Awards by members of The Blues Foundation.
John Primer and Bob Corritore will be appearing at The Rock, 136 N. Park Avenue, along with The Rhythm Room All-Stars. The band includes Big Jon Atkinson (Kim Wilson, James Harman, Kid Ramos) on guitar, Troy Sandow (The Fremonts, James Harman, Nathan James) on bass and Marty Dodson (Kim Wilson, Mark Hummel) on drums.
Showtime is 7:30 PM at The Rock, 136 N. Park in Tucson. Doors open at 6:30 for this very special event. Tickets are $15 in advance from the Southern Arizona Blues Heritage Foundation website at www.kxci.org. Tickets at the door are $18 with a $3 discount for SABHF and KXCI members.
