KXCI is proud to roll out our newest course, our Youth Live DJ Workshop for anyone age 13-17, with generous support from The Marshall Foundation. Taught by Shelby Athouguia, a member of the Friday night DJ team Electric Feel. One of the pioneers who pushed the revival of the Tucson dance community, Shelby’s DJing style incorporates a wide array of mediums such as vinyl, digital and live production and pulls from varied influences such as rock, hip hop, EDM, disco and many more.
This introductory course will provide you will all of the fundamentals of live DJing. Topics to be covered include everything from CD and vinyl beat matching, equipment and sound set up, phrasing, to basic scratch techniques and how to count music. You’ll also learn how to legally find and download music as well as proper DJ etiquette.
The workshop runs for 4 Saturdays in June from 1-3pm.
