KXCI’s Annual Governing Board of Directors Election 2018

June 20, 2018
Thank you for your interest in KXCI’s annual Foundation for Creative Broadcasting Board of Directors election!

Each year, KXCI members elect three of their fellow members to seats on the KXCI Board of Directors. Each seat is for one 3-year term. Officially, anyone who is a member of KXCI in good standing for 30 days prior to their nomination can be elected to the Board, with the exception of paid employees of the Foundation for Creative Broadcasting. Generally speaking, the Board is composed of individuals who can put forth the effort to sustain and grow a viable Community Radio station. Helpful backgrounds include experience on other nonprofit boards, in fundraising and development, technology, broadcast, accounting, human resources and the law. The primary requirement for being a successful Board member, however, is a love for Community Radio.

Candidates are listed in alphabetical order. Please remember to vote for up to three candidates, but no more than three candidates.

Paul Chandler– I’ve been listening to community radio wherever I have lived for over 40 years. I discovered KXCI shortly after moving to Tucson 20 years and I have been a member and supporter of KXCI for over 15 years. It is time to take my membership and support to a new level and give back by volunteering to serve on KXCI’s Board of Directors.

I owned and operated a construction company for most of my working career as an architect and building contractor. In addition, I have served on a half dozen Boards of Trustees, two of which were non-profits. I understand the non-profit business model and feel I can apply my business experience and knowledge to KXCI’s daily operations and strategic fiscal planning for the future.

I am asking for your vote of confidence to join KXCI’s Board of Directors. I love KXCI and I want to be a part of the future of this wonderful treasure.

David Gallaher– I have been a resident of Tucson since 1968, attending grade school, high school, and graduating from the UA in 1979. I’ve had a career in economic development and have been the sole owner and broker for Tucson Industrial Realty LLC, which was started in 1984 specializing in sales and leasing of industrial and commercial real estate.

I have served on many boards in the Tucson community that include Centurions, Big Brothers Big Sisters (President of board and volunteer), Rotary Club of Tucson member for 28 years (President 2013/2014), Associate Board Member of Boys and Girls Clubs of Tucson and 2010 EVENT Co-Chair, Board Member and President of the Amphi Schools Foundation 2003-2010.

I have been an avid KXCI listener since 2001 when I first discovered the station. I feel that KXCI is an incredibly important resource for Tucson and provides a diverse programming that is appreciated by a very diverse listening audience. I feel that my best contribution as a new board member is to engage many different groups of potentially new KXCI members. I am also experienced with fund raising within the community and would plan to use those skills to help KXCI grow membership and dollars. Music is and has been a great source of pleasure for both me and my spouse Susan who has been a volunteer at the station. We are proud parents of a talented professional musician and feel very fortunate to be very connected to the local musician community which KXCI plays such an important role in supporting. Thank you this great opportunity to serve if elected to the KXCI Board Of Directors.

Zack Jarrett– I am a native Tucsonan. In a town with a lot to love, KXCI stands out as one of my absolute favorite things. I started listening in high school in the nineties with the Blues Review and Dead Air on the weekends. For the past five years I served as President of the Board at Valley of the Moon, during which time I led efforts to craft an actionable mission and vision, develop a membership program, extend hours, grow volunteerism, encourage business involvement, increase community presence, improve marketing, and fundraise. I am a graduate of the Greater Tucson Leadership class of 2017 and am a professional software engineer. KXCI is a treasure and I am an ambassador for the station. I would be honored to serve on the board and apply my technical skills, nonprofit background, and enthusiasm for community building to KXCI Community Radio.

In April 2013, the KXCI Board of Directors voted to make online voting the primary method for the board election. If you would prefer to receive and return a paper ballot, you may request one from the community engagement office, 520-623-1000 x 17 or or download a ballot from the KXCI Website, or pick one up during regular business hours at 220 S 4th Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85701. Please complete this ballot by 5:00 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2018 to ensure that your ballot is counted!
