Your Brain And Music: Can Music Make You Smarter, Happier, Healthier?

Himmel Park Public Library

Today many neuroscientists are using music in their experiments to understand more about the brain. Why is this such a rich area for them? Not only can they see the areas of the brain music-listening and music-making light up and excite, they describe visually tracking the process of learning music as if on a map.

As we learn more about music and its effects on us—and learn there are many benefits beyond entertainment—we can understand why some predict that music will be the healing art of the future. Music’s role in our evolutionary development is still a hotly contested issue among these scientists, but the accumulating data about our “brain on music” is unmistakable regarding how important, positive and valuable music is to human beings – and some clues about why. Learn how knowing more about music can benefit you. Presented by Dr. Janice Jarrett
