Arizona Premiere of Tatanka (documentary)
The Screening Room
With the feature film Cesar Chavez now out in theaters, there is a great deal of discussion about the accuracy of the story and whether it paints too simplified a version of his life and times. If Chavez is the Hollywood biopic version, a documentary coming to the Arizona International Film Festival on Wednesday, April 16 presents a raw, unvarnished look at that era. Featuring never-before-seen footage of Chavez, Joan Baez, Daniel Ellsberg and others, Tatanka is the story of a man who worked with all of them, a sixties dreamer now one scheme away from financial ruin. Called “fascinating” by the producer of last year’s Oscar nominated Beasts of the Southern Wild and “deeply personal” by Indiewire’s Katie Walsh, Tatanka has screened at film festivals across the country and is now coming to Tucson for its Arizona Premiere! Director Jacob Bricca, a Tucson local who teaches at the U of A, will be in attendance.
