Natural Body Products! Less Packaging, Less Chemicals and Easier on The Ecology

Hilary-E This week I talk with Hilary about using alternative body products.

Alternative body products are easier on the enviornment since there are less (or no) chemicals and packing can be reduced and reused.

Hilary has not “washed” her hair in 6 months.  Nor does she use deodorant! To clean her teeth….she does “Oil Pulling” and uses an alternative toothpaste.

Hilary is quite lovely! (see photo if you don’t believe) What shiny hair! How does she do it?  Listen here and learn. For more info, Hilary recommends checking out Wellnessmama

Here is the recipe for her hair:  Shampoo- one part baking soda, three parts water + Conditioner- one part apple cider vinegar, three parts water.

Hilary was also kind enough to share this excellent info.  Here is her daily regimen:

  1. I like to start the day by reconnecting with my body and energizing my core with soft belly breathing.
  2. There are TONS of books, applications & websites dedicated to sharing short affirmations for the day. My recent favorite is the song lyric, “Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth.”
  3. Drinking water first thing in the morning not only rehydrates, it flushes toxins & kick starts metabolism.
  4. Water is our lifeblood and so very good for the body. Reuse a glass mason jar or splurge on a metal, glass or BPA-free water bottle. Please reconsider your use of disposable plastic water bottles. They suck for the environment.
  5. Fresh air does a body and a soul good. It always feels like such a luxury to open our window in the morning and invite fresh air into the house.
  6. Use steam from steeping (green) tea to melt organic coconut oil.
  7. Poop happens. You should know about it.
  8. Supplements can be expensive. If you are taking them, do a bit of research to maximize their benefit.
  9. Pulling organic coconut oil is rad. You should try it.
  10. I usually write in my Inner Twin journal, or do a meditation while pulling oil.
  11. After I spit the coconut oil out into the trash or the toilet (it will clog your sink drains) I rinse my mouth out with a little warm, filtered water.
    1. I have a Sonicare toothbrush, which helps me remember to brush for 2 full minutes. Also, I don’t scrub my teeth. I let the toothbrush do the work and I just move it gently in circles around my gums and teeth.
    2. I use a water pick in the morning and floss at night.
    3. I do a hydrogen peroxide rinse a few times a day. It’s a 50/50 splash of hydrogen peroxide and water. Make sure to swish it around for at least a minute before spitting it out. No need to rinse with water after.
  12. At this point, my green tea is the perfect temperature and has been fully steeped. I add 1 tablespoon of our own raw honey to help deter seasonal allergies & satisfy my sweet cravings.
  13. I am madly in love with the new smoothies for breakfast craze. My husband makes his own and I make them for me and the little one. Here is my favorite smoothie recipe of the moment from Dr. Hyman.
  14. I have my blood drawn annually and consult with my primary physician about the suppliments I take daily. Also, I try to get my vitamin D directly from the sun, since I live in a sunny place.
  15. I go to Wildcat Crossfit in Tucson and stretch for 20 minutes after each workout. I also do a Mobility WOD once a week.
  16. For me Beauty/Relaxation includes:
    1. Thai massage
    2. Honey face mask
    3. Egg yolk face mask
    4. Microneedling
  17. Poop happens. You should know about it.
  18. Dry brush
  19. Steam in the shower is luxurious and relaxing.
